The Arcadia tycoon, 67, is claimed to have fondled Katie Surridge’s bottom as if “testing a piece of fruit” and demanded a private Pilates session, adding: “I need you to stretch me.” Mrs Surridge claimed Sir Philip spanked and grabbed her bottom during the classes in the Canyon Ranch luxury resort in Tucson, Arizona, in 2016 and 2018. Pima County Attorney’s Office said Sir Philip was charged with four counts of knowingly touching another person with the intent to injure, insult or provoke. He has denied the allegations. Mrs Surridge said earlier this year: “I felt very taken advantage of.” Following her complaint, it is claimed the billionaire said: “You Americans are so uptight.”
Mrs Surridge said she took time off to avoid Sir Philip when he returned to the resort, where guests shell out nearly £800 a night for the spa, outdoor pools and cosmetic treatment clinic.
She claims he first targeted her on January 5, 2016, when he headed to her studio following a Pilates class. “First thing he does was slap my butt,” she said.
“I want to say it felt like 10 times – it was probably somewhere between six to 10. But it was like boom, boom, boom, boom, vigorous.”
She added: “I’d never had someone do that to me. Never. I mean, not even in like a bar setting. And, here I am at work, just trying to teach Pilates, and my butt’s being spanked.”
Kimberly Khoury, a homeowner at the resort, described by police as an independent witness, gave an account to a detective of what she claims to have seen in 2016.
“I see his hand go reach out and, like, pat her buttocks,” Ms Khoury told the officer. “And then pat it again and like, grab her buttocks. And then she kind of moved, like, startled a little bit.
“And then he removed his hand and brought it back. I can’t tell you what we talked about because I was so focused on what was happening with his octopus-like hand.”
If convicted Sir Philip could be barred from travelling to the US, where he has several stores, which are due to close under a major shake up.
Deputy county attorney Lauren Deakin said: “Philip Green has been formally charged with four misdemeanour assault counts.
“Each count has a potential sentence of up to 30 days in the Pima County jail, a fine of not more than $500, and up to one year of probation.”
A spokesman for the billionaire said: “Sir Philip strenuously denies these allegations and is disappointed that the charges have been filed in his absence.
“They are minor categories of misdemeanour in the United States.
“Sir Philip is not personally required to attend before the court at the forthcoming hearing and will be represented by his lawyer.
“Contrary to previous suggestions in the media there is no allegation of any sexual assault or misconduct made by the prosecution.”
Last October, he was outed by Labour peer Lord Hain as the business mogul gagging five former employees from making sexual harassment claims.
The Canyon Ranch resort caters for around 15,000 guests each year and has welcomed stars like Julia Roberts.
A resort spokesman said: “We do not discuss personnel matters out of sensitivity for employee privacy and will not comment on these allegations.”
